Jakarta: The Center for Languages Development (PPB) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta will conduct online English and Arabic language exams for new students. The English exam named the English Test for Islamic Community (ETIC) and the Arabic Test of Arabic as a Foreign Language (TOAFL), will be held tomorrow, July 23-30, 2025.

In an online coordination meeting on Saturday (July 19, 2025), English Languages Coordinator Dadan Nugraha, M.Pd., Ph.D., stated that the ETIC and TOAFL language exam for new students of 2025-2026 academic year is an annual event for new students at UIN. This exam is the first wave for new students who passed the National Achievement-Based Selection (SNBP), the National Test-Based Selection (SNBT), and the National Academic Achievement Selection for State Islamic Religious Universities (SPAN-PTKIN).

"The UIN Jakarta new student language exam is an annual event, the implementation of this exam is coordinated with UIN Jakarta Academic Center and all faculties," explained Dadan, a doctoral graduate of Queens University, Belfast, England.

Dadan added that the students taking the first wave of the language exam are new students who passed through the following pathways:

1. National Achievement-Based Selection (SNBP), totaling 870 students;
2. National Test-Based Selection (SNBT), totaling 2,012 students;
3. National Academic Achievement Selection for State Islamic Religious Universities (SPAN-PTKIN), totaling 651 students.

"The total number of participants from these three pathways—SNBP, SNBT, and SPAN-PTKIN—is 3,533," Dadan explained at the UIN Jakarta PPB Office in Kertamukti, South Tangerang, Monday (July 21, 2025).

Meanwhile, PPB Arabic Language Coordinator Muhammad Anas Lc., M., explained that the online exam consists of four sessions.

Session I: 7:30 AM – 9:30 AM
Session II: 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM
Session III: 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM
Session IV: 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM

Anas added that this exam aims to measure new students' foreign language skills, which will then be used to map the language students' capacity through PPB.

"In addition to assessing new students' language skills, participants with the highest scores have the opportunity to receive scholarship preparation programs for student exchanges, international mobility, internships, and international community service," Anas added. (AH)
